BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision in overtime to visiting Framingham State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Saturday.
The visiting Rams improve to 5-4-2 on the season and 3-1 in the MASCAC with the win, while the host Bears fall to 4-6-1 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play.
Junior forward Romulo Carvalho (Milford, Mass.) notched the game-winner for the Rams with just 41 seconds remaining in overtime. Carvalho potted his first goal of the season as he knocked home the rebound of a Nicholas Cotter (Sandwich, Mass.) shot. Cotter ripped a shot that was labeled for the top-left corner from 15 yards out. BSU junior keeper Matt Bagley (Braintree, Mass.) made a terrific stop of the initial shot but the rebound dropped in front of the goal line and Carvalho knocked the ball into the unguarded net
Shots were fairly even with Framingham holding a slight 19-18 advantage for the game. The Rams, however, had the edge in play in overtime as they outshot the Bears, 7-1 in the extra session. Corner kicks were 8-2 in favor of Bridgewater with six of the Bears' eight coming in the first half.
Senior goaltender Sam Yoder (Southbridge, Mass.) made ten saves between the pipes for the Rams to record his fourth win of the season and second shutout. Bagley turned aside six shots for the Bears.
In upcoming action, Bridgewater entertains non-conference foe Lasell College on Wednesday night at seven. Framingham travels to Clark University on Wednesday evening to take on the Cougars at six.
