Men's Basketball Downs Anna Maria, 89-64, at Wheaton Tip-Off Classic

NORTON, Mass. -- Four Bears scored in double figures led by a game-high 21 points from sophomore forward Josh Campbell (Plymouth, Mass.) as the Bridgewater State University men's basketball team cruised to an 89-64 victory over Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon at the Wheaton Tip-Off Classic.

Campbell, who was named to the All-Classic Team, connected on 8 of 14 field goal attempts and added four rebounds and a pair of steals.

The Bears, who went 2-0 at the season-opening classic, also received  14 points, six rebounds, eight assists and four steals from junior guard Dante Kikuba (Framingham, Mass.).

Senior guard TJ Williams (Jupiter, Fla.) added 13 points on 6 of 9 shooting in 14 minutes off bench for Bridgewater State while junior center Samuel Omisore (Boston, Mass.) recorded double-double totals of 12 points and 11 rebounds including six offensive boards.

Trailing 15-14 in the first half, the Bears used an 18-3 to open up a 32-18 lead. Bridgewater maintained the double-digit advantage the rest of the way with the final tally of 89-64 being the biggest lead of the game.

The Bears shot 47% (35-75) from the floor and 72% (13-18) at the free throw line.

The BSU defense forced 26 Anna Maria turnovers and limited the AMCATS to 38% (21-56) shooting.

Neither team shot well from behind the arc. The Bears connected on 6 of 33 (18%) three-point field goals while the AMCATS went 4-for-24 (17%) from long-range.

Bridgewater finished with a 44-34 rebounding advantage (13-7 offensive.

The Bears held the the edge in points off turnovers (27-10), second chance points (13-3), points in the paint (44-28) and bench points (42-29).

Senior forward Gabriel Armstead (Dallas, Ga.) paced the AMCATS with 16 points, six rebounds  and a pair of blocked shots.

The Bears host Nichols College on Wednesday night at 7:30.

The AMCATS (0-2) entertain Gordon College on Wednesday evening at six.
