FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Sophomore Samantha Souza (Dartmouth, Mass.) continued her scoring production for the Bridgewater State University field hockey team Saturday afternoon.
Souza registered a hat trick to lead the Bears to a 5-1 win over Framingham State University, improving their record to 8-2 and 4-1 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Souza now has 19 goals and five assists for 43 points in 10 games and has at least one goal in nine games. She leads the MASCAC in goals and points and is among the NCAA Division III leaders.
Earlier in the season, Souza scored four goals against Maine-Farmington and had three goals against the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Souza also had a four-goal game in 2024 against Anna Maria.
BSU took a 2-0 lead in the first period, and after holding a 2-1 edge at halftime, outscored the Rams, 3-0, in the second half.
Souza got the Bears going at 11:25 with an assist to sophomore Kallie Rose (Dartmouth, Mass.).
Just over a minute later, junior Abbie Zuber (Westport, Mass.) made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal at 12:28. Zuber now has 13 goals and six assists for 32 points and is seconds in the conference in all three categories.
The Rams moved within 2-1 at 17:51 on a goal by sophomore Reese Neale (East Bridgewater, Mass.).
Souza then scored twice in just under eight minutes in the third period for a 4-1 lead.
She scored unassisted at 32:49 and then was assisted by senior Raegen Perry (Nantucket, Mass.) at 40:41.
The scoring was finished by sophomore Makena Flanagan (Clinton, Mass.) at 56:49, assisted by Rose, who leads the team with seven assists.
BSU senior goalkeeper Brianna Gagnon (Tewksbury, Mass.) made six saves.
Framingham State junior Kaitlyn Tello (Nashua, N.H.) stopped eight shots. The Rams are 1-9, including 0-5 in the MASCAC.
The Bears, who improved to 5-0 on the road, will be home Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game against Worcester State.
Framingham State entertains Anna Maria on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
