BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman forward Samantha Souza has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Field Hockey Rookie of the Week.

A native of Dartmouth, Massachusetts, Souza scored a career-high four goals, including the game-winner, in an 8-2 win last week over Anna Maria College.

Through seven games this season, all starts, Souza has recorded five goals and two assists for 12 points. She is presently tied for second among the MASCAC leaders in goals and game-winning goals (2), and ranks third in scoring and fourth in shots on goal (17). She is also tied for fifth in assists.

Souza is the second Bear to earn MASCAC Field Hockey Rookie of the Week honors, joining teammate Madison Ellis, since the conference began sponsoring field hockey as a sport in 2023.

The BSU field hockey team is currently 3-4 on the season and 1-1 in the MASCAC standings. The Bears entertain conference rival Framingham State University on Tuesday night at seven o'clock.
