
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior Abby Massarelli, juniors Irianny Solorin and Emelia Westwater, and freshmen Alison Curran and Samantha Souza have each been named 2024 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Scholars of Distinction.
Massarelli, Solorin, Westwater, Curran and Souza are among over 550 Division III student-athletes from more than 135 institutions from across the country to earn the honor, including 15 from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC).
The NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year.
Massarelli, who hails from Stoughton, Massachusetts, is currently sporting an impressive 3.92 GPA as she is majoring in elementary education and childhood studies.
Solorin, a Methuen, Massachusetts resident, is a biology major with a remarkable 3.93 GPA. She also has a minor in theatre arts.
An Attleboro, Massachusetts product, Westwater checks in with a superb 3.98 GPA and is majoring in elementary education.
A native of Braintree, Massachusetts, Curran is an early childhood and special education major with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Souza, who calls Dartmouth, Massachusetts home, also sports a perfect 4.0 GPA as she is majoring in pre-occupational therapy.
Earlier this week, Massarelli, Solorin, Westwater, Curran and Souza were among 14 Bears named to the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad.
