FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University field hockey team had a four-game winning streak stopped with an overtime loss Saturday afternoon.
The Bears were edged by Framingham State University, 3-2, when senior Kaylee Beck (Tyngsboro, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal 4:52 into the extra session.
BSU is 7-8 and 3-5 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference while the Rams are 7-9 and 4-4 in the MASCAC.
Sophomore Madison Ellis (Attleboro, Mass.) scored both goals for the Bears.
BSU held a 1-0 lead after scoring 3:41 into the game, but Framingham State tied it early in the fourth period. The teams then traded goals 2:05 apart to force overtime.
It was BSU's second OT game of the season as it lost at Worcester State by the same score last month.
Ellis opened the scoring with junior Lexi James (Ipswich, Mass.) assisting. Off a penalty corner, James corralled the rebound of a Charlotte McElroy (Sr., Carver, Mass.) shot and tapped a short pass to Ellis who converted into the right side of the net.
The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Bears until early in the fourth period.
Sophomore Marina Cadena (Wareham, Mass.) tied the game with Beck assisting at 46:17.
The Bears took the lead at 2-1 when Ellis scored, assisted by freshman Kallie Rose (Dartmouth, Mass.) at 56:40. Ellis has five goals, three in the last two games. Rose colleced the rebound of her own shot and slid a pass over to Ellis who buried a shot inside the left post.
Framingham State came right back at 56:45 when graduate student Angelina Serra (North Chelmsford, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal. The score came on a penalty stroke.
Beck netted the winning goal when she put a rebound in.
BSU junior Brianna Gagnon (Tewksbury, Mass.) made six saves while Rams sophomore keeper Kaitlyn Tello (Nashua, N.H.) had nine saves.
The Bears play their final non-conference game Tuesday at 7 p.m., hosting Wheaton College.
Framingham State will be at Worcester State on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
