SALEM, Mass. -- Sophomore Abbie Zuber (Westport, Mass.) had a goal and an assist as the Bridgewater State University field hockey team won its second straight game Wednesday night.

The Bears swept the season series from Salem State University, posting a 2-1 victory over the Vikings at Alumni Field.

BSU improved to 5-7 and is 2-4 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference while Salem State is 2-10 and 0-6 in the MASCAC.

The Bears blanked the Vikings, 1-0, in their first meeting at Bridgewater on Sept. 21.

Zuber assisted on a first-period goal by freshman Samantha Souza (Dartmouth, Mass.) and scored a goal in the second period.

Souza registered her team-leading seventh goal 9:04 into the game with Zuber picking up her team-best seventh assist. Zuber drove to the net and slipped a pass to Souza on the left who delivered a shot into the wide-open left side.

BSU went in front, 2-0, at 21:21 when Zuber potted her fifth goal of the season and team-leading 17th point. Off a nice pass from junior Lexi James (Ipswich, Mass.) on the left side, Zuber beat the Worcester netminder with a shot inside the far post.

Salem State scored its goal at 54:48 when freshman Mikayla Talbot (Scarborough, Maine) netted her team-leading fifth goal. Freshman Grace Morey (Danvers, Mass.) picked up the assist.

BSU junior goalkeeper Brianna Gagnon (Tewksbury, Mass.) made back-to-back saves and tried to slide out and stop another shot, only to have the ball get behind her where Talbot was able to score.

Gagnon recorded the win, making eight saves.

Salem State sophomore Izzy Mosley (Marlborough, Mass.) had 13 stops.

The Bears held an 18-12 edge in shots and a 16-9 advantage in shots on goal.

Zuber and sophomore Madison Ellis (Attleboro, Mass.) each had five shots on goal for BSU.

The Bears will be home on Saturday at 4 p.m. to play Worcester State University at Mazzaferro Field. BSU lost, 3-2, in overtime to the Lancers on Sept. 27.

Salem State, which has dropped eight games in a row, hosts Framingham State at noon on Saturday.
