Field Hockey Falls to WPI, 8-0

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Junior forward Julia Vanderstreet (West Bridgewater, Mass.) tallied two goals and two assists to lead the WPI field hockey team to an 8-0 shutout victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Tuesday night at Alumni Stadium.

Junior midfielder Emma Bennett (Hampstead, N.H.) and sophomore forward Lauren Dishong (Milford, N.H.) added two goals apiece for the host Engineers who improve to 2-0 on the season. The Bears fall to 0-2.

Junior midfielder Kaitlyn Hess (Milford, N.H.) and junior forward Abby O'Sullivan (Walpole, Mass.) also scored for WPI.

The Engineers finished with a 15-1 shot advantage for the game as well as an 8-0 edge in penalty corner attempts. WPI scored in each of the four quarters including three goals in the first period and three in the fourth. The Engineers final tally came off a penalty corner with time expired.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ali Gannon (Fremont, N.H.) played the first 30 minutes and made one save to record her second win of the season between the pipes for the hosts.

Senior netminder Jillian Delaney (Foxborough, Mass.) turned aside three shots in the setback for Bridgewater State. Senior midfielder Jacquelyn Legendre (Westport, Mass.) recorded the Bears' lone shot of the game.

The Engineers entertain Salve Regina University on Saturday at noon, while the Bears are off until Wednesday, September 11th when they host Wellesley College at seven o'clock.
