
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University graduate punter and kicker Shane Drake has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Special Teams Player of the Week.
Drake knocked through a pair of field goal attempts, converting from 23 and 38 yards, and averaged 39.5 yards on two punts with one inside the 20 and one fair catch in the Bears’ 41-0 MASCAC win over Framingham State. The Franklin, Massachusetts product also averaged 62.8 yards on eight kickoffs including three touchbacks.
Through four games this season, Drave is averaging 42.8 yards on 12 punts with a long of 54 yards, three punts inside the 20 and three fair catches. He is also averaging 60.1 yards on 18 kickoffs with six touchbacks.
Drake presently leads the MASCAC in punting average and is tied for second in fair catches.
In 35 games over four seasons with the Bears, Drake is averaging 41.9 yards on 94 career punts with 23 inside the 20 and 15 punts of 50-plus yards. He is also averaging 57.7 yards on 177 career kickoffs with 45 touchbacks, and has converted 9 of 16 field goal attempts
Drake is currently the Bears' all-time leader in punting average. Last year, he set the Bears' single-season punting record as he averaged 42.5 yards on 39 punts.
The MASCAC weekly honor marks the fifth of Drake's career.
The BSU football team is currently 1-3 on the season and 1-2 in the MASCAC. The Bears have a Homecoming Weekend game on Saturday at four o'clock when Worcester State University visits Mazzaferro Field.
