BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman running back Zy'Kie Askew has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Rookie of the Week.

Askew rushed for 78 yards on 19 carries and added two receptions for 15 yards this past weekend in the Bears' 31-20 MASCAC win on the road over VTSU Castleton.

In nine games this season, Askew has rushed for 367 yards and a touchdown on 65 attempts as he is averaging 5.6 yards per carry.

Askew is the Bears' second MASCAC Rookie of the Week this season joining fellow freshman running back Jeremiah Julmiste (Wesley Chapel, Fla).

The BSU football team is currently 4-5 on the season and 4-4 in the MASCAC standings. The Bears host Massachusetts Maritime Academy in the 45th Annual Cranberry Bowl Presented by A&A Metro Transportation on Saturday at noon.
