
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University equestrian team co-hosted their home show with Babson College at Grand Champion Show Stables in Stoughton on Saturday. The team finished sixth overall and also celebrated their graduating seniors.
Sophomore captain Abigail Abbott (Wareham, Mass.) opened the day in open flat on Benny, a 15.2hh bay gelding, and finished in fifth. Abbott then rode Henry, a 16hh bay gelding, in the open fences division and secured another fifth place finish.
Junior captain Emily Desmond (Braintree, Mass.) made her debut in the open flat division aboard Fuego, a 17hh bay Warmblood gelding, and rode to a second-place ribbon. Desmond then hopped on Ophelia, a 16.2hh bay mare, for the limit fences division and had a beautiful round for a first place finish.
Senior Hannah Arsenault (Attleboro, Mass.) guided Peyton, a 16.1hh liver chestnut gelding, in limit flat and came home in sixth.
Sophomore Alyson McKeon (Worcester, Mass.) took the reins of Mack, a 18hh Warmblood gelding, in limit flat and finished fifth.
Freshman Melanie Schick-Fernandez (Abington, Mass.) rode Willow, a 14.2hh quarter pony, for her limit flat class and finished in fourth.
Freshman Becky Costa (Foxborough, Mass.) took Ginny, a 15.3hh bay Warmblood mare, around in the novice division and notched a third place finish.
Junior Maeve Murray (Marshfield, Mass.) had a great ride on Elvis, a 17.2hh bay draft cross, and came home in fourth in pre-novice.
Freshman Kaitlin Volpe (Millis, Mass.) guided Harvey, a 15.2hh chestnut draft cross gelding, in the pre-novice division and finished in fifth.
Senior Alexis Silva (Halifax, Mass.) wrapped up the day in the introductory division. Silva had a wonderful ride on Peyton and grabbed the fourth place ribbon.
The Bears will be back in action on March 23rd for their show at ABD Equestrian hosted by Boston College.
