Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches at WPI

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon at a tri-match held at Harrington Auditorium on the campus of WPI.

The Bears (2-9) dropped a 3-0 decision (25-17, 25-11, 25-9) to MIT and suffered a 3-0 setback (25-13, 25-17, 25-13) to host WPI.

In the 3-0 loss to MIT, sophomore right side Meaghan Coutu (Brookline, NH) had six kills, five digs, one ace and an assisted block. Senior setter Bethany Votta (Cumberlnd, RI) checked in with seven digs and nine assists while senior middle hiiter Abigail Reardon (Fairhaven, MA) recorded three kills, one ace and an assisted block for the Bears.

Eileen Sadati (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) posted nine kills for MIT to lead all players. Elise Echarte (Miami Beach, Fla.) had eight kills and five blocks, while Peyton Brown (Parker, Colo.), notched seven kills and four blocks. Kayleigh May (Camarillo, Calif.) dished out a match-high 25 assists with Gavros tallying match-best totals of 11 digs and five aces.

In the 3-0 loss to WPI, freshman middle hitter Lily Welch (Hanson, MA) notched six kills and a .429 hitting percentage while Votta registered 11 assists, two aces and eight digs for the Bears. Reardon added four kills and a pair of blocks (one solo) and freshman libero Lilly Misay (New Bedford, MA) posted two aces and five digs.

Catherine Reynolds (Concord, N.H.) notched 11 assists, five kills and five digs to pace WPI. Audrey Stroupe (Leesburg, Va.) and Zeala VanDamme (San Diego, Calif.) notched six kills apiece with VanDamme recording three aces and a pair of blocks and Stroupe adding a pair of aces. Lily Eldridge (Danvers, Mass.) tallied six assists, six digs, and five kills, while Jia Yazon (South Windsor, Conn.) topped the table with 10 digs. Olivia Deckers (Marlboro, Mass.) added six digs in the win.

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Fitchburg State University for a six o'clock Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) match with the Falcons.
