Erin Clifford Named MASCAC Volleyball Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the fourth straight week and fifth and final time this season, Bridgewater State University sophomore middle blocker Erin Clifford has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball Rookie of the Week.

Clifford averaged 10.5 kills and 1.5 blocks with a .269 hitting percentage in two matches for the Bears during the MASCAC Tournament last week. The Hanson, Massachusetts product notched 15 kills and three blocks (two solo) in a 3-1 quarterfinal round win over Worcester State, and six kills and a dig in a 3-0 semifinal round setback to Framingham State.

In 31 matches this season, Clifford produced 268 kills and a team-leading .278 hitting percentage to go along with 14 aces, 42 digs and 51 blocks. She ranks second in the MASCAC in hitting percentage, fifth in kills and sixth in blocks. She is also third among the conference leaders with 25 solo blocks.

At the conclusion of the regular of the regular season, Clifford was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Year and was selected to the All-MASCAC Second Team.

The BSU volleyball team wrapped up the 2016 campaign with an 11-20 record. The Bears were seeded fourth in the MASCAC Tournament with a 3-3 conference mark.
