Erin Clifford Named MASCAC Volleyball Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University sophomore middle blocker Erin Clifford has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball Rookie of the Week.

Clifford averaged 11 kills, one ace and 1.75 blocks with a .266 hitting percentage in four matches for the Bears last week. The Hanson, Massachusetts product tallied 13 kills and a solo block in a 3-1 loss to Curry College; 13 kills and one assisted block in a 3-2 setback to Salve Regina University; eight kills, one ace and four solo blocks in a 3-0 MASCAC loss to Westfield State; and 10 kills, three aces and one assisted block in a 3-0 setback to the University of Southern Maine.

In 21 matches this season, Clifford has produced 158 kills and a team-leading .267 hitting percentage to go along with nine aces, 20 digs and 32 blocks. She ranks third in the MASCAC in hitting percentage and seventh in both kills and blocks. She is also tied for fourth among the conference leaders with 16 solo blocks.

The BSU volleyball team is currently 7-14 on the season and tied for third place in the MASCAC standings with a 2-2 conference mark. The Bears travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Wednesday night for a seven o'clock MASCAC match with the Buccaneers.
