Volleyball Suffers 3-2 Setback to MCLA on Senior Day

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting MCLA volleyball team posted a 3-2 (25-20, 19-25, 25-10, 19-25, 16-14) victory over Bridgewater State University on Saturday afternoon at the Tinsley Center. The match marked the regular season finale for both teams.

The Trailblazers improve to 15-13 on the season and 4-2 in the MASCAC, while the host Bears fall to 10-19 overall and 3-3 in conference play. Bridgewater is just 3-11 over the last 14 matches.

MCLA is the third seed in next week's MASCAC Tournament and will host a first round match against #6 Salem State University on Wednesday night at seven. Bridgewater is seeded fourth and will entertain fourth-seeded Worcester State University on Wednesday evening at six.

In a tightly contested back-and-forth affair, senior outside hitter Allison Clark (San Jose, Calif.) paced the visiting Trailblazers with 14 kills, five digs and a pair of solo blocks. Senior outside hitter Sam Anderson (Floral Park, N.Y.) and junior middle hitter Maggie Allen (East Patchogue, N.Y.) added ten kills apiece with Anderson also contributing a pair of solo blocks.

MCLA finished with 11 aces in the match with junior defensive specialist Michelle Laga (Mahopac, N.Y.) leading the way with a match-high five.

Sophomore middle blocker Erin Clifford (Hanson, Mass.) led Bridgewater State with a career and match-high 17 kills to go along with three blocks (two solo) and two aces. Senior outside hitter Clara Goncalves (Dennis, Mass.) checked in with 11 kills and two blocks (one solo), while senior outside hitter Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) added ten kills, seven digs and two aces.

BSU senior setter Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) led all players with 29 assists and 12 digs. Panner also recorded two kills and two aces. Senior libero Samantha Fasoli (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) contributed three kills, four digs and a pair of assist.

The Bears notched eight aces on the afternoon but also registered ten serving errors.

Fasoli, Goncalves, Maymon and Panner were honored prior to the match. The four BSU seniors were playing in their final regular season home contest.
