Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches at Western Connecticut Tri

DANBURY, Conn. – The Bridgewater State University dropped a pair of matches at a tri-match hosted by Western Connecticut State University on Saturday. The Bears (7-10) lost their opening match to Keene State College, 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 25-21, 25-27, 15-11), before falling to the host Colonials, 3-1 (25-23, 25-17, 25-27, 25-17).

Sophomore Erin Clifford (Hanson, Mass.) notched ten kills and an impressive .421 hitting percentage to go along with two blocks (one solo) to lead the Bears in the setback to Keene State. Sophomore Elizabeth Roberts (Swansea, Mass.) recorded a match-high 13 kills, while senior Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) tallied 12 kills, three aces and 11 digs. Senior setter Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) dished out 44 assists and added five kills and 19 digs, while sophomore Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) contributed 21 digs and three aces.

The Owls received ten kills apiece from juniors Rachel Lamica (Malone, N.Y.) and Courtney Collins (Litchfield, N.H.) and freshman Kat Carrel (Avon, Mass.). Junior Katie Cunningham (Nelsonville, N.Y.) registered 36 assists and 11 digs.

In the loss to Western Connecticut, Maymon paced the Bears with 16 kills, an ace and six digs. Clifford added eight kills and three blocks (one solo), while Panner tallied 30 assists, one ace and eight digs. Tyros registered 18 digs and an ace, and senior Clara Goncalves (Dennis, Mass.) checked in with seven kills and a .300 hitting percentage.

Senior Karissa Smith (Bristol, Conn.) racked up match-highs of 17 kills and 22 digs, while sophomore Kamari King (East Hartford, Conn.) notched 11 kills for the Colonials. Senior Danielle Kaminsky (Southington, Conn.) dished out a match-high 45 assists.

The Bears travel to Curry College on Tuesday evening for a six o'clock non-conference match with the Colonels.

Notes: With her 74 assists, Panner increased her career total to 2,917. Only Shawna O'Neill (1998-01) and Heather Simmons (1994-97) have recorded more in a Bridgewater State uniform. O'Neill holds the Bears' all-time record with 2,977 assists, while Simmons is second in program history with 2,960 assists.
