Volleyball Swept in Non-Conference Tri-Match

NORTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team was swept in a tri-match hosted by Wheaton College this afternoon. The Bears dropped a pair of 3-0  decisions to WPI (25-15, 25-23, 28-26) and  the host Lyons (25-18, 25-18, 28-26).

Bridgewater falls to 1-7 on the season with the two setbacks.

Senior outside hitter Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) paced the Bears in the two matches with 20 kills, 22 digs and three assisted blocks. Senior setter Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) notched 51 assists to go along with 16 digs and three kills, while sophomore libero Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded 31 digs and a pair of aces. Senior outside hitter Clara Goncalves (Dennis, Mass.) added a 17 kills and posted a team-best .277 hitting percentage.

Maymon, who earlier this week became the seventh player in program history to record 1,000 career kills, tallied ten kills, 12 digs and two assisted blocks in the loss to the Engineers of WPI. She finished with ten kills, ten digs, an ace and an assisted block in the setback to Wheaton.

Panner dished out 25 assists against the Engineers and tallied 26 assists versus the Lyons.

Goncalves had a terrific match against Wheaton as she registered 11 kills and a solid .357 hitting percentage.

The Bears are off until next Thursday evening when they host the Pride of Regis College at six.
