Maymon Notches 1,000th Kill as Bears Blank UMass Dartmouth, 3-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior outside hitter Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) tallied a match-high 12 kills including the 1,000th of her career to lead the Bridgewater State University volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 26-24) victory over visiting UMass Dartmouth on Thursday evening at the Tinsley Center.

Maymon's milestone kill came during the Bears 25-14 set two win. She became the seventh student-athlete in program history to reach the milestone and first since Julie Clerc in 2010. 

Sitting at 991 career kills entering the match, Maymon recorded six kills in the opening set as the Bears pulled out the 25-22 win. She then tallied four kills, including her 1,000th, in a one-sided second set.

Sophomore middle Erin Clifford (Hanson, Mass.) added eight kills and a pair of blocks (one solo) for the hosts, while classmate Elizabeth Roberts (Swansea, Mass.) notched six kills, an ace and a solo block. Senior setter Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) recorded 20 assists, two kills and five digs, and sophomore libero Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) contributed a match-best 12 digs to go along with two assists and an ace.

Freshman outside hitter Anita Sengara (Vancouver, B.C.) paced the visiting Corsairs with six kills, three digs and solo block, while freshman setter Jordan Rittberger (Huntington, N.Y.) filled the stat sheet with 13 assists, three kills, an ace and three digs.

Bridgewater attacked well over the first two sets recording 26 kills and a .254 hitting percentage. The Bears struggled on the attack in the third set but rallied from an early 6-0 deficit to pull out the 26-24 win and a sweep of the match.

UMass finished with as many kills (17) as attacking errors.

The victory marked the first of the season for the Bears who improve to 1-5. UMass falls to 3-4 with the setback.
