Charleyne Panner Named MASCAC Volleyball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior setter Charleyne Panner has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball Player of the Week.

A native of Gilford, Massachusetts, Panner averaged 35.4 assists, 8.2 digs, two kills and one ace in a 3-2 week for the Bears which included a 3-1 MASCAC win over Worcester State University.

Panner notched 36 assists, ten digs, two kills and an ace in the victory over the Lancers. She also recorded 141 assists, 31 digs, eight kills and four aces in four matches at the Johnson and Wales Wildcat Classic including 42 assists, seven digs, three kills and an ace in a 3-1 win over Rutgers-Newark, and 41 assists, five digs and an ace in a 3-2 setback to tournament champion Rhode Island College.

In the match against RIC, Panner became just the sixth player in program history to reach the 2,000-assist milestone. She also moved past Erica Kelly (2,010 assists) into fifth place on the Bears' all-time list. Panner has 2,018 assists in just three seasons at Bridgewater State as well as 175 kills, 90 aces and 565 digs.

In 20 matches this season, Panner has amassed 43 kills, 577 assists, 24 aces and 147 digs. She currently leads the MASCAC in assists and ranks 13th in aces.

The BSU volleyball team is presently 9-11 on the season and 2-1 in the MASCAC standings. The Bears travel to Salve Regina University on Tuesday night for a seven o'clock non-conference match with the Seahawks.
