Volleyball Advances to MASCAC Semifinals with 3-0 Win over Salem State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team dominated from start to finish as the fourth-seeded Bears downed fifth-seeded Salem State University, 3-0, in MASCAC Tournament quarterfinal round action on Wednesday evening at the Tinsley Center.

The Bears, who won by set scores of 25-19, 25-14 and 25-8, advance to the tournament semifinal round and will take on MCLA on Saturday at noon. The top-seeded Trailblazers are hosting both semifinal round matches as well as the championship match on Saturday.

BSU junior outside hitter Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) paced the Bears with 13 kills, eight digs, an ace and a pair of solo blocks. Maymon also recorded a .455 hitting percentage.

Junior setter Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) added 33 assists and eight digs, while senior outside hitter Clara Goncalves (Dennis, Mass.) chipped in with ten kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Freshman middle hitter Elizabeth Roberts (Swansea, Mass.) checked in with three kills, five aces and six digs, and junior libero Samantha Fasoli (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) notched four aces and nine digs.

The Bears recorded 40 kills and a team hitting percentage of .318, while limiting the Vikings to just 19 kills and a .066 hitting percentage. Bridgewater also recorded 12 aces.

Senior middle Emily Peay (Lebanon, Conn.) led the way for the Vikings with seven kills, two aces and two blocks (one solo), while freshman setter Mackenzie Salls (Turners Falls, Mass.) registered ten assists and four digs, and freshman outside hitter Allison Vellucci (Northville, Mich.) added four kills, two aces and a solo block.

Bridgewater improves to 13-19 on the season with the win, while Salem ends the season with an overall mark of 6-20.
