Volleyball Falls to Western Connecticut, 3-0

NASHUA, N.H. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Western Connecticut State University in the Bears' final match of the Live Free or Die Invitational on Saturday at Daniel Webster College.

The Colonials (14-8) posted set scores of 25-21, 25-11 and 25-17 and hit .288 as a team while the Bears (9-15) connected for a .155 hitting percentage.

Karissa Smith led the winners with 14 kills and added 20 digs while Brittany Steele and Cady Cordes posted eight kills apiece. Danielle Kaminsky handed out 30 assists and added 12 digs.

Senior middle hitter Clara Goncalves (Dennis, Mass.) notched seven kills to lead the Bears, while junior outside hitter Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) chipped in with six kills and senior middle hitter Julie Hutchins (Bellingham, Mass.) added five. Freshman libero Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded 15 digs and junior setter Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) dished out 24 assists.

With her 24 assists, Panner increased her career total to 2,123 as she moved past Melanie Appleman (2,107 assists) into fourth place on the Bears' all-time list.

The Bears are back in action on Thursday night when they travel to Wellesley College for a seven o'clock game with the Blue.
