Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches at Live Free or Die Invitational

NASHUA, N.H. – The Bridgewater State University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches during day one of the Live Free or Die Invitational hosted by Rivier University on Friday.

The Bears lost to Rhode Island College, 3-1 (18-25, 25-13, 25-23, 27-25), in their first match of the day and then fell to host Rivier by a score of 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-14).

Game One: Rhode Island College 3, Bridgewater State 1

In the opening game of the Invitational at the Muldoon, it was Rhode Island College who pulled out a four set victory over Bridgewater State.

Kelsey Lace hammered down 12 kills for RIC and both Michelle Malboeuf and Emily Langlais added eight kills apiece as the Anchorwomen (12-6) earned their 12th win of the season. Langlais had an outstanding evening as she registered a .636 hitting percentage to go along with her solo block. Abigayl White led the team with 36 assists and Megan Armburg collected 12 digs along the back line.

Hannah Maymon notched 12 kills to pace the Bears in the opening match while Clara Goncalves added 11 kills and Charleyne Panner handed out 39 assists. Cassidy Tyros (14) and Maymon (12) recorded double-digit digs in the loss.

Game Two: Rivier 3, Bridgewater State 0

Lauren Silverman powered the Raiders to the three set victory as she totaled 12 kills, .500 hitting percentage and two total blocks. Jackie Pisecco added seven kills and Dana Mott provided 6 kills in the team's fifth straight win. Emily O'Reilly dished out 26 helpers and Bethany Trevino secured the back line with 10 digs.

Bridgewater State was led by Maymon and Goncalves, who combined for 21 kills on the evening. Goncalves also swung it well as she had a .474 hitting percentage. Tyros collected nine digs and Panner had 25 assists.

The invitational concludes on Saturday as the Bears (9-14) will take on Western Connecticut State University at 11:00 AM on the campus of Daniel Webster College.
