Volleyball Falls to Hamilton at Hall of Fame Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team opened the 2014 Hall of Fame Invitational with a 3-0 setback to Hamilton College.

The Bears (14-17) dropped a tough 25-23 decision to the Continentals (14-8) in the opening game.  Hamilton took control of the match the rest of the way winning 25-16 and 25-13 in games two and three, respectively, to complete the sweep.

Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) paced BSU with a team-best eight kills to go along with seven digs, three aces, a solo block and a pair of assists.

Senior setter Lisa Vega (Milford, Mass.) added 21 assists, six digs and an ace for the Bears, while freshman middle hitter Christina Jaros (Plymouth, Mass.) notched seven kills and junior middle hitter Julie Hutchins (Bellingham, Mass.) tallied five kills.  Jaros also posted a .417 hitting percentage while Hutchins checked in at .308.

Senior right sidde hitter Erin Casey (Montclair, N.J.) and sophomore middle hitter Jessica Weston (Spring Valley, Ohio) paced the Continentals with eight kills apiece.  Freshman middle hitter Margaret O'Brien (Concord, Mass.) added four kills and four assisted blocks, while freshman setter Kyndal Burdin (Boynton Beach, Fla.) finished with 17 assists, two aces and six digs. Freshman setter Julia Smith (Newton, Mass.) contributed 12 assists and senior outside hitter Emma Lonadier (Rochester, N.Y.) added eight digs and four kills.

The Hall of Fame Invitational will continue for Bridgewater State on Saturday with the location shifting to Smith College.  The Bears will take on the host Pioneers at 10:00 AM, followed by a two o'clock match with Trinity College.
