Volleyball Blanks MASCAC Foe Salem State, 3-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University volleyball team posted a 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-21) victory over Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) rival Salem State University on Saturday afternoon at the Tinsley Center.

The host Bears improve to 11-6 (1-1 MASCAC) with their fifth straight win, while the Vikings slip to 1-5 (0-2 MASCAC).

Freshman middle hitter Christina Jaros (Plymouth, Mass.) paced the Bears with nine kills, a .389 hitting percentage, four digs and a solo block, while sophomore setter Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) checked in with 17 assists and eight digs.  Senior right side Sarah Mullarkey (Salem, Mass.) added four kills, four assists and 12 digs, and sophomore outside hitter Clara Goncalves (Dennis, Mass.) chipped in with six kills.

The Bears recorded ten aces in the match with senior outside hitter Rebecca Morse (Norton, Mass.) and senior libero Lisa Vega (Milford, Mass.) notching three apiece with Panner finishing with two.

Junior middle hitter Emily Peay (Lebanon, Conn.) led the Vikings with six kills, while sophomore outside hitter Alexandra Hopkinson (Reading, Mass.) finished with four kills and two aces.  Freshman outside hitter Julie O'Coin (Marlborough, Mass.) added five kills.  

In upcoming action, the Bears travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Wednesday night for a seven o'clock MASCAC match with the Buccaneers. The Vikings entertain non-conference foe Anna Maria College on Tuesday evening also at seven.
