Volleyball Wraps Up Regular Season with 3-1 Win at MCLA

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The visiting Bridgewater State University volleyball team posted a 3-1 (25-14, 25-21, 22-25, 25-23) victory over Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) foe MCLA on Saturday in the regular season finale for both teams.

With the win, the Bears improve to 15-17 on the season and 4-2 in the MASCAC.  The host Trailblazers fall to 10-18 overall and 1-5 in conference play.  The two teams will square off again in the opening round of the 2013 MASCAC Tournament on Wednesday at Bridgewater.  BSU is seeded third in the tournament while MCLA is the number six seed.

Bridgewater came out strong in the first set and never looked back. They were led by Hannah Maymon who had 6 kills on 9 attempts and Melanie Appleman had 14 assists. The Bears ended up winning set two but not before the Trailblazers put up a fight. The Bears took advantage of the Trailblazers' six errors and went on to win 25-21. Appleman had 10 assists.

The Trailblazers down 0-2 came back and won set three 25-22 pace by Sam Barbarotta's five kills on nine attempts and Courtney Parent's 11 assists. Set four seemed to be going the Trailblazers way but Bridgewater fought back and earned the win. Maymon and Julie Hutchins combined for 7 of the teams 13 kills.

Bridgewater was led by Maymon's 15 kills and 12 digs and Hutchins' 11 kills and four solo blocks. Appleman racked up 48 assists on the afternoon to increase her career total to 2,054 as she moved past Erica Kelley (2004-07) into fourth place on the Bears' all-time assist list.

Senior Julia Christian had 11 kills, eight digs and two block assists while classmate Kendra Hobbs had 15 digs. Courtney Parent led the Trailblazers with 32 assists.
