Volleyball Posts 3-0 MASCAC Win over Mass. Maritime

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University Bears posted a 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-10) win over visiting Massachusetts Maritime Academy in MASCAC volleyball action on Wednesday evening at the Tinsley Center.

The host Bears improve to 9-7 on the season and 2-1 in the MASCAC, while the Buccaneers slip to 2-14 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Senior setter Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) led the way for the Bears with 18 assists, four aces, five digs and a pair of kills.  Sophomore middle hitter Julie Hutchins (Bellingham, Mass.) tallied five kills and a solo block, while freshman setter and reigning MASCAC Rookie of the Week Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) chipped in with three aces, four assists and three digs.  Freshman outside hitter Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) added four aces and two kills, and senior defensive specialist Chelsea Correia (East Falmouth, Mass.) finished with three aces and four digs.

Bridgewater finished with 17 service aces in the match.

Junior setter Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) paced the visitors with two kills, two aces and four assists, while freshman libero Stephanie O'Connor (Westwood, Mass.) notched a match-high 12 digs.  Sophomore middle hitter Emily Calnan (Hingham, Mass.) registered three kills and senior defensive specialist Michaela Garrity (Tiverton, R.I.) added seven digs.

In upcoming action, Bridgewater will compete at the JWU Fall Classic on Friday and Saturday in Providence, Rhode Island.  Mass. Maritime travels to Eastern Nazarene College on Saturday for a tri-match with the host Crusaders and Suffolk University.
