Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match

SALEM, Mass. – Salem State hosted Bridgewater State and Suffolk University in a tri-meet at Twohig Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. The Bears went 2-0 on the day, defeating Salem State in the opening match 3-0, (24-21, 25-22, 25-18) in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference game, and beating the Rams in four sets (25-17, 25-27, 25-23, 26-24). Suffolk split their matches, coming back to defeat Salem State (25-14, 22-25, 25-15, 25-10, 15-11) in the final match.

Bridgewater State 3 Salem State 0

The Bears were led by Charleyne Panner (Gilford, NH), who posted a game-high 34 assists, and added nine digs in a matchup of Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) foes.. Danielle Dean (Gilford, NH) recorded nine kills, and 10 digs, while Kristen Robillard (Swansea, MA) chipped in with 10 digs. MacKenzie Carpenter (Peabody, MA) led the Vikings with 22 assists and four digs, and teammate Jazmin Santos (Lawrence, MA) contributed nine kills in the loss.

Bridgewater State 3 Suffolk 1

Bridgewater State won their fourth match in a row, defeating Suffolk in four games. Dean once again led the Bears with a game-high 17 digs, and nine kills. Sarah Mullarkey (Salem, MA) recorded three aces and 15 digs while Panner led the way with 38 assists and 10 digs. Robillard finished with nine digs to increase her BSU career total to 1,177 as she moved past Julie Clerc (2007-10) into fourth place on the Bears' all-time digs list. Suffolk was led by Hailey Atkinson (Branford, CT), who had 12 kills, five aces, and 24 digs. Colbey Kennedy (Old Lyme, CT) added 17 digs, while Sarah Arbogast (Chesterfield, MO) recorded 13 assists.

Suffolk 3 Salem State 2

The Rams came back to defeat Salem State after taking the first set 25-14. Salem State won the next two sets before Suffolk won game four to force a fifth and deciding set. Glamarys Sierra (Carolina, PR) was key for the Rams in victory, securing 18 assists, four aces and five digs. Arbogast contributed 17 assists, while Atkinson scored 11 kills, four aces and six digs. Savannah Carpenter (Weston, CT) also had a nice game with 13 kills. The Vikings were led by Carpenter's 45 assists and 17 digs, and Shuly Sejour's (Chelsea, MA) 15 kills, and Emily Peay's (Lebanon, CT) 13 kills, and nine digs.

Bridgewater improves to 8-7 on the season and 1-1 in the MASCAC, while Salem slips to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play.  Suffolk is now 8-8 on the year.

Salem State is back in action on Tuesday at Anna Maria for a 7:00 PM match. Bridgewater State hosts Mass Maritime on Wednesday at 6:00 PM, while Suffolk travels to Eastern Nazarene for a tri-meet with Mass Maritime next Saturday.
