BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Sophomore Shelly DePina (New Bedford, MA) registered 12 kills and three blocks to lift Bridgewater State to a 3-0 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference volleyball victory over Massachusetts Maritime by game scores of 25-8, 25-7, and 25-8 in the league opener for both squads Wednesday evening at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.
Senior Brianne Cobb (New Bedford, MA) added six service aces and five digs for the visiting Bears (2-3, 1-0 MASCAC), who also received 20 set assists from freshman Jennifer Shaw (Brockton, MA). Junior Julie Clerc (Acushnet, MA) chipped in with nine kills.
Freshman Suzanne Marino (Kings Park, NY) recorded four kills and three digs in the setback for the host Buccaneers (0-6, 0-1 MASCAC), who also received four set assists from freshman Leanne Talbot (Norton, MA).
Massachusetts Maritime hosts Newbury in a non-league outing next Tuesday evening at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Bridgewater State travels to Norton, Mass. for a non-league tri-match with Coast Guard and Wheaton that begins at 1:30 p.m.
