Kiara Abrantes Named MASCAC Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight week, Bridgewater State University junior Kiara Abrantes has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.

Abrantes captured the meet in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.32 seconds this past weekend at the Amherst Spring Fling. The Somerset, Massachusetts native also checked in at third in the 200-meter dash (25.49) and ran a leg on the Bears' second place 4x100-meter relay (48.56).

Abrantes, who recorded outdoor personal bests in both the 400 and 200, currently ranks 18th in all of Division III in the 400 and second in the East Region. She is also fifth in the East Region in the 200.

The MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week honor marks the fifth of Abrantes' career and second outdoor distinction.

The BSU women's outdoor track & field team will compete on Friday and Saturday at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College.
