Escalera Sets 200 Mark to Lead Women's Track & Field at River Hawk Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. -- Graduate student Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.) broke her own school record in the 200-meter dash to lead the Bridgewater State University women's indoor track & field team on Friday at the River Hawk Invitational hosted by UMass Lowell and held at The Track at New Balance.

The meet predominantly featured Division I and Division II programs.

Escalera posted a time of 25.29 seconds in the 200 to finish 16th at the meet as she eclipsed her previous BSU indoor mark of 25.50 seconds set back in December at the UMass Boston Beacons Open. Escalara also finished 18th in the 60-meter dash (7.86).

Senior Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) tied for third in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 4.25 inches (1.63m). Sands also finished 38th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.66).

Junior Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) placed sixth in the 400-meter dash with a PR time of 57.78 seconds. Abrantes was also 25th in the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 25.74 seconds.

Graduate student Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) finished 13th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.06), 22nd in the 60-meter dash (7.90) and 33rd in the long jump (16'8.5"/5.09m).

Senior Juliana Patrone (Wilmington, Mass.) finished 13th in the high jump with a career-best leap of five feet, 2.25 inches (1.58m).

Sophomore Naomi Cass (Westport, Mass.) was the 17th runner to cross the finish line in the 1,000-meter run as she checked in with a time of 3:10.49. Cass also finished 30th in the mile with a PR of 5:20.01.

Junior Lily Valcovic (East Taunton, Mass.) posted a personal-best time of 19:18.81 in the 5,000-meter run to finish 25th at the meet.

Junior Tristen Gomes (Middleboro, Mass.) competed in the triple jump for the first time this season and recorded a personal indoor best mark of 35 feet, 1.25 inches (10.70m) to finish 25th in the event.

Junior Kate Brown (Acushnet, Mass.) finished 43rd in the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:31.81.

The BSU women's indoor track & field team is back in action on Saturday, February 3rd when the Bears compete at the Tufts Cupid Challenge.

Notes: Abrantes is currently 15th in all of Division III in the 400 and 42nd in the 200...Escalera is 19th in all of Division III in the 200.
