Peterson Breaks High Jump Mark at MIT Final Qualifier

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Senior Abbi Peterson (Watertown, Mass.) broke her own school record in the high jump to lead the Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team at the MIT Final Qualifier.

Peterson captured the high jump title at the meet with a leap of five feet, eight inches (1.73m) as she eclipsed her previous program mark of five feet, 7.25 inches (1.71) set last year at the BSU Bears Invitational.

Peterson is currently tied for second in all of Division III in the high jump.

Classmate Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) posted a career-best time of 14.05 seconds in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles to win the event. McDonough currently ranks 13th in all of Division III in the hurdles.

Sophomore Tristen Gomes (Middleboro, Mass.) placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 36 feet, 10.50 inches (11.24m). Gomes posted a career-best mark for a non-wind aided jump.

Junior Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) placed sixth in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 0.25 inches (1.53m). Sands presently ranks 23rd in all of Division III in the high jump.

The field for the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships is expected to be announced Friday evening by 8:00 PM. The top 22 declared student-athletes for each individual event will qualify for the national championship meet.
