McDonough Leads Women's Track & Field at NEICAAA Championships

DEDHAM, Mass. – Qualifying members of the Bridgewater State University women's track & field team competed during the opening day of the 2023 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Northeastern University.

Senior Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) placed fifth in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.29 seconds as she advanced to Saturday's finals. McDonough also finished 13th in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.36 seconds.

Senior Abbi Peterson (Watertown, Mass.) finished ninth in the high jump with a leap of five feet, five inches (1.65m), while junior Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) checked in at 18th (4'11"/1.50m) in the high jump.

Senior Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.) finished 15th in the 200-meter dash (25.80) and 18th in the 100 (12.46), while sophomore Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) was 23rd in the 400-meter dash (59.21).

Day two of the NEICAAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will get underway tomorrow morning at ten. The meet features teams from all three NCAA Divisions throughout New England.
