Peterson, Escalera, McDonough Earn All-New England Honors to Lead  Women’s Track & Field at DIII New Englands

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Seniors Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.), Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.) and Abbi Peterson (Watertown, Mass.) earned All-New England honors to lead the Bridgewater State University women's track & field team during day two of the 2023 Division III New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Springfield College.

McDonough placed second in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 14.19 seconds.

Escalera garnered a pair of All-New England accolades. She placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.40 seconds and finished fifth in the finals of the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.42 seconds.

Peterson place fourth in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 4.5 inches (1.64m).

The Bears' 4x100-meter relay squad featuring McDonough, Escalera, sophomore Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) and junior Maeve Grosschedl (Lakeville, Mass.) place fifth to earn All-New England status in the event with a time of 48.43 seconds.

Abrantes also finished ninth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.69 seconds.

Juniors Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and Juliana Patrone (Wilmington, Mass.) finished 12th (5'0.5"/1.54m) and 16th (5'0.5"/1.54m), respectively, in the high jump. Sophomore Tristen Gomes (Middleboro, Mass.) checked in at 14th (36'2.25"/11.03m) in the triple jump. The quartet of freshman Naomi Cass (Westport, Mass.), junior Nicole Major (Andover, Mass.) and sophomores Lily Valcovic (East Taunton, Mass.) and Ana Imrie (Arlington, Mass.)  finished 14th in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 10:54.81.

The Bears finished in 14th place in the team standings with 27 points. MIT captured the meet title with 135 points followed by Tufts University (75 pts.) in second place and Middlebury College (67 pts.) in third.

Next weekend, qualifying members of the BSU women's track & field team will compete at the NEICAAA Championships hosted by Northeastern University.
