Women's Track & Field Places 7th at Silfen Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team finished in seventh place at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College on Saturday at the Silfen Field & Track.

Senior Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) captured top honors in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.51 seconds. McDonough also placed third in the 100-meter dash with a collegiate-best time of 12.32 seconds, and finished fifth in the long jump with a season-best leap of 17 feet (5.18m). McDonough was just shy of the Bears' 100-meter dash mark of 12.3 seconds set by Fran Ramos in 1981.

Senior Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.) placed fourth in the 100 with a career-best time of 12.44 seconds, and added a fourth-place performance in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.77 seconds.

Sophomore Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) placed third in the 400-meter dash with a collegiate-best time of 59.02 seconds. Abrantes also ran a leg on the the Bears' sixth-place 4x400-meter relay (4:20.95) along with senior Lily Marra (Lakeville, Mass.), Lindsey Golden (Mansfield, Mass.) and Allison Raposo (Cumberland, R.I.).

Junior Juliana Patrone (Wilmington, Mass.) placed fourth in the high jump with a leap of four feet, 11.75 inches (1.52m). Sophomore Tristen Gomes (Middleboro, Mass.) finished seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 34 feet, 8.5 inches (10.58m), while graduate student Alexa Wilson (Centerville, Mass.) was eighth in the long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 3.25 inches (4.96m).

McDonough recorded qualifying times for the Division III New England Championships and NEICAAA Championships in both the 100 and 100 hurdles. Escalera (100, 200) and Abrantes (400) also recorded qualifying times for DIII New Englands.

The Bears recorded 47 points at the meet. Host Conn. College won the meet with 121.5 points, while Springfield College (110.5 pts.) and Wesleyan University (83 pts.) rounded out the top three teams.

The BSU outdoor track & field teams compete next Saturday at the Tufts Sunshine Classic.
