Women’s Track & Field Competes at UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track and field team competed on a rainy and windy Saturday at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.

The Bears won eight events at the meet, placed second in four others, and added a trio of third-place performances.

Senior Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.) captured top honors in the 100-meter dash with a D3 New Englands qualifying time of 12.80 seconds.

Junior Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) placed first in the high jump with a D3 New Englands qualifying leap of five feet, 1.75 inches (1.57m). Sands also finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (16.46).

Senior Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) won the long jump with a mark of 15 feet, 10.5 inches (4.84m). McDonough added a third place showing in the 100-meter hurdles (16.52).

Sophomore Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) posted the top performance in the 400-meter dash as she posted a time of 1:00.95.

Junior Maeve Grosschedl (Lakeville, Mass.), and seniors Lily Marra (Lakeville, Mass.) and Lindsey Golden (Mansfield, Mass.) finished 1-2-3, respectively, in the 200-meter dash. Grosschedl recorded a winning time of 28.45 seconds. Marra crossed the finish line in 28.79 seconds while Golden checked in at 29.24 seconds.

Junior Nicole Major (Andover, Mass.) won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:36.70.

The foursome of McDonough, Escalera, Abrantes and Grosschedl placed first in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 49.24 seconds.

Marra, Golden, Major and freshman Naomi Cass (Westport, Mass.) grabbed top honors in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 5:04.46.

Sophomore Tristen Gomes (Middleboro, Mass.) placed second in both the long jump (15'8.5"/4.79m) and the triple jump (33'3.5"/10.15m). Gomes recorded personal best marks in each event.

Junior Juliana Patrone (Wilmington, Mass.) notched a third place showing in the high jump (4'9.75"/1.47m).

Next Saturday, the Bears travel to Springfield, Massachusetts for the Springfield College Classic.
