BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore Serenity Sands has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Outdoor Field Athlete and Rookie of the Week.

Sands garnered All-New England honors in the high jump this past weekend at the NEICAAA Championships hosted by Bryant University. The East Bridgewater, Massachusetts native recorded a mark of five feet, five inches (1.65m) to tie for second place in the event.

Sands has earned MASCAC Rookie of the Week accolades five times this season as well as MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week honors twice. She currently ranks 20th in all of Division III in the high jump.

Several members of the BSU track and field teams will compete on Thursday at the MIT Final Qualifier.
