Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Captures MASCAC Title

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team captured the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) championship on Sunday at Westfield State.

The MASCAC outdoor title marked the Bears' first since 2015 and eighth in program history. Bridgewater also won conference championships in 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2003 and 2015. The Bears tallied 198.5 points in the team scoring to outdistance runner-up Worcester State University (154 pts.).

Senior Jamelah Foster (Fall River, Mass.) won a pair of MASCAC individual titles in the discus throw and hammer throw. Foster posted a career-best mark of 130 feet, six inches (39.79m) in the hammer, and tossed the discus 121 feet, four inches (37.00m).

Foster was the Bears' top scorer at the meet with 26 team points. She also placed third in the shot put with a heave of 32 feet, 3.75 inches (9.85m).

Sophomore Abbi Peterson (Watertown, Mass.) captured the MASCAC high jump title as she equaled her career-best with a leap of five feet, three inches (1.60m).

In the track events, the Bears; 4x400-meter relay squad featuring sophomores Lily Marra (Lakeville, Mass.), Lindsey Golden (Mansfield, Mass.) and Madison Ashley (Freetown, Mass.), and senior Mary Jok (Lynn, Mass.) won the MASCAC championship with season-best a time of 4:18.37.

Freshman Nicole Major (Andover, Mass.) won the conference 800-meter crown with a career-best time of 2:26.70.

Sophomore Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) and freshman Meg McCullough (Mattapoisett, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' MASCAC champions with a pair of victories in the hurdles. McDonough placed first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.91 seconds, while McCullough won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:11.56.
