Women's Indoor Track & Field Places 9th at Branwen Smith-King Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's indoor track and field team placed ninth at the Branwen Smith-King Invitational hosted by Tufts University on Saturday afternoon at the Gantcher Center.

The Bears recorded a score of 31.5 points. MIT took the meet title with 143 points followed by host Tufts in second place (114 pts.) and Amherst College in third (77 pts.).

Senior Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.) capture the Bears' lone victory on the day in the 5,000-meter run. Madden ran a season-best time of 18:10.88 as she outdistanced the field by over 30 seconds.

Sophomores Katherine Vogel (Pawling, NY) and Kaylee Dunn (North Attleboro, Mass.) placed fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 5,000. Vogel ran a career-best time of 18:57.40, while Dunn checked in at 19.13.32.

The Bears' foursome of seniors Jessica Haywood (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Tess Miller (Uxbridge, Mass.) and freshmen Lily Marra (Lakeville, Mass.) and Lindsey Golden (Mansfield, Mass.) placed ninth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:20.53.

In the 60-meter hurdles, freshman Samila Adilas (Randolph, Mass.) finished 11th with a preliminary time of 10.03 seconds.

Freshman Madison Ashley (Freetown, Mass.) placed 16th in the 200-meter dash running a time of 27.86 seconds.

In the field events, Golden and junior Mary Jok (Lynn, Mass.) tied for seventh in the high jump clearing a height of 4 feet 9.5 inches (1.46m).

Juniors Juliana Martin (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Jamelah Foster (Fall River, Mass.) placed third and fifth, respectively, in the weight throw. Martin tossed the weight a career-best distance of 48 feet, 7.25 inches (14.81m), while Foster posted a mark of 46 feet 7.5 inches (14.21m).

Senior Holly DeCourcey (Billerica, Mass.) placed 11th in the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet, 0.5 inches.

Madden, Foster, and Martin all hit qualifying marks or times for the Division III New England Championships taking place later this month.

Next Saturday, the BSU indoor track and field teams will compete at the Panther Invitational hosted by Plymouth State University.
