Women's Track and Field Competes at Massasoit Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Bridgewater State women's indoor track and field team competed at the non-scoring Massasoit Classic hosted by Springfield College on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears lone event win on the day was the distance medley relay. The relay squad consisted of seniors Tess Miller (Uxbridge, Mass.) Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.) and Jessica Haywood (East Longmeadow, Mass.) along with freshman Julie Glavin (Weymouth, Mass.). Together they posted a winning time of 13:23.10.

Madden also placed second in the mile run as she crossed the finish line in 5:26.56. Close behind Madden in third was sophomore Kaylee Dunn (North Attleborough, Mass.) who came in at a time of 5:29.38. 

In the 3000-meter run Katherine Vogel (Pawling, NY) also placed second, running a personal best of 10:52.65.

In the 60-meter hurdles, freshman Samila Adilas (Randolph, Mass.) placed third running a finals time of 10.03 seconds. Also placing third in the 200-Meter dash classmate Madison Ashley (Freetown, Mass.) sprinted to a time of 27.53 seconds.  

In the weight throw, junior classmates Jemelah Foster (Fall River, Mass.) and Juliana Martin (North Attleboro, Mass.) placed second and third in the weight throw. Foster tossed the weight a career-best of  49 feet 4.25 inches (15.04m) while Martin followed with a mark of 45 feet 6.5 inches (13.88m).

Foster and Martin both hit qualifying marks for the Division III New England Championships.

Next week the BSU track and field teams will compete at the Tufts Branwen Smith-King Invitational along with a few members heading to the NEICAAA championship held at the Reggie Lewis Center.
