Three School Records Fall as Women's Track & Field Competes at Tufts Stampede

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Senior Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) and sophomore Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) each set school records to lead the Bridgewater State University women's indoor track & field team at the Tufts Stampede on Saturday.

Bennett broke her own shot put mark for the third straight week as she captured the meet title with a toss of 43 feet, 4.5 inches (13.22m). Bennett eclipsed her previous mark of 42 feet, 10.75 inches (13.07m) set last weekend at the Wheaton Invitational.

Andrews knocked off a pair of school records in the 60-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash. She won the individual title in the hurdles with a finals time of 9.08 seconds, breaking her own mark of 9.10 seconds set last weekend. Andrews placed second at the meet in the 200 with a time of 26.37 seconds as she eclipsed Kristin Neville's previous BSU standard of 26.42 seconds set 14 years ago in 2003.

Bennett currently ranks tenth in all of Division III in the shot put, while Andrews is also 12th in the hurdles.

Junior Kristin Leone (Weymouth, Mass.) placed second in the long jump with an indoor career-best distance of 16 feet, five inches (5.00m) and added a fifth place performance in the 60-meter hurdles with a finals time of 9.65 seconds.

Seniors Sheila O'Sullivan (Westwood, Mass.) and Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) finished second and third, respectively, in the weight throw. O'Sullivan recorded a throw of 45 feet, 9.75 inches (13.96m), while Maymon posted a career-best toss of 45 feet, nine inches (13.94m).

Maymon also finished ninth in the shot put with a career-best mark of 36 feet, 7.75 inches (11.17m).

The Bears' relay squad featuring Andrews, freshman Tess Miller (Uxbridge, Mass.) and seniors Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.) and Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) placed second in the 4x200 with a time of 1:47.26.

Miller added a fifth place showing in the 600-meter run (1:43.73).

Seniors Sabrina Rizzo (Peabody, Mass.), Kristyn Grattan (Hanover, Mass.) and Katherine Cicchetti (Plymouth, Mass.) and sophomore Emily Guyon (Hopedale, Mass.) placed second in the 4x800-meter relay (10:35.40).

Next Saturday, the Bears will compete at the Wesleyan Invitational II.
