Women's Track & Field Opens Indoor Season at UMB Invitational

ROXBURY, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's indoor track and field team competed at the season-opening UMass Boston Invitational on Saturday held at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Senior Danielle Poto (Andover, Mass.) captured the individual title in the 5,000-meter run as she posted a winning time of 18:08.42.

Junior Sabrina Rizzo (Peabody, Mass.) also grabbed top honors for the Bears as she placed first in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:19.90.

Junior Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) finished second in the high jump with a leap of five feet, three inches (1.60 meters).

Freshman Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) had a solid collegiate debut for the Bears as she placed third in both the 400-meter dash (59.03) and the 60-meter hurdles (9.27). Andrews also ran a leg on the Bears' second place 4x400-meter relay squad (4:03.55) along with classmate Kassidy Campbell (Norton, Mass.) and juniors Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.) and Abbie Pustis (Andover, Mass.).

Senior Ariele Krevosky (Oxford, Mass.) finished fifth in both the 60-meter hurdles (9.49) and the long jump (17'3.25"/5.26m) as well as seventh in the triple jump (34'5.00"/10.49m). Krevosky eclipsed her own school indoor long jump record of 16 feet, 10.75 inches set at the 2014 MASCAC Championships.

Seniors Sheila O'Sullivan (Westwood, Mass.), Rachel Ducharme (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Emily Ducharme (North Attleboro, Mass.), and junior Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) rounded out the Bears top performers at the meet. O'Sullivan placed fourth in the weight throw (42'0.5"/12.81m), while Rachel and Emily Ducharme finished fourth (19:30.85) and fifth (19:34.21), respectively, in the 5,000-meter run. Perry posted a sixth-place showing in the 200-meter dash (26.49).

Poto qualified for all three regional postseason meets as did Andrews in the 400. Andrews also qualified for the Division III New England Championships and the ECAC Championships in the hurdles. The Bears' 4x400 relay team qualified for the ECACs.

Krevosky qualified for DIII New Englands in all three of her events as well as the ECACs in the long jump. Richner and Perry qualified for both DIII New Englands and ECACs.

The Bears are off until January 16th when they compete at the Tufts Invitational.
