Samantha Richner Named MASCAC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight week, Bridgewater State University junior Samantha Richner has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.

A native of Hanson, Massachusetts, Richner finished fourth in the heptathlon at the Holy Cross Multi-Event Meet last week. She recorded a score of 4,317 points to finish behind three Division I heptathletes at the meet.

Richner posted scores of 830 points in the high jump (5’6”/1.68m), 701 points in the 200-meter dash (27.13), 694 points in the 100-meter hurdles (16.17), 551 points in the long jump (16’3.75”/4.97m), 545 points in the shot put (33’6.75”/10.23m), 526 points in the 800-meter run (2:44.19) and 470 points in the javelin (97’4”/29.66m).

Through the first five weeks of the outdoor season, Richner currently ranks 12th in all of Division III in the heptathlon and is tied for eighth in the high jump. 

Richner currently hold BSU outdoor records in the high jump (5'6.5"/1.69m) and 4x100-meter relay (49.58), as well as indoor marks in the pentathlon (3,195 pts.) and high jump (5'6"/1.68m).

The MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week honor marks the ninth of Richner's career including three outdoor distinctions.

Next Saturday, the BSU outdoor track & field teams will be competing at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships hosted by UMass Dartmouth.
