Richner Earns All-New England Honors, Sets School Pentathlon Record

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- Bridgewater State University junior Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) broke the school record in the pentathlon and placed fifth in the event to earn All-New England honors at the 2016 Division III New England Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Middlebury College on Friday.

Richner posted a score of 3,105 points in the pentathlon as she eclipsed teammate Ariele Krevosky's (Oxford, Mass.) previous mark of 3,045 points set last season.

Richard tied for first in the high jump and tied her own school record with a leap of five feet, 5.25 inches (1.66m). She also finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.60), fifth in the shot put (32'5.75"/9.90m), eighth in the long jump (15'8.75"/4.79m) and tenth in the 800-meter run (2:48.02).

Richner's highest scoring event was the high jump as she posted a score of 806 points.  She also tallied 789 points in the hurdles, 523 points in the shot put, 503 points in the long jump and 484 points in the 800.

Peyton Dostie of the University of Southern Maine captured the pentathlon title with a score of 3,545 points. She was followed by Addison Carvajal of Bowdoin College (3,345 pts) in second place and Jenna Athanasopoulos of Colby College (3,229 pts) in third.

Richner currently ranks 20th in all of Division III in the high jump and 22nd in the pentathlon.

The Division III New England Championship meet continues for the Bears' indoor track & field teams on Saturday.
