Women's Indoor Track & Field Captures MASCAC Title

PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- The Bridgewater State University women's indoor track & field team captured their third straight Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) title as the Bears competed at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships held on Saturday at Plymouth State University.

The Bears posted a score of 240 points in the MASCAC results to finish well ahead of runner-up Westfield State Univesity (187 pts.).

BSU also finished in second place in the New England Alliance standings with 113 points trailing only Alliance Champion University of Southern Maine (171 pts.).

Freshman Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) garnered MASCAC individual titles in three events as well as one relay. Andrews placed first in the 200-meter dash (27.12), the 400-meter dash (1:00.09) and the long jump (16'11.5"/5.17m). She also ran a leg on the Bears' MASCAC champion 4x400-meter relay (4:09.58) squad along with juniors Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.), Abbie Pustis (Andover, Mass.) and Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.).

Senior Ariele Krevosky (Oxford, Mass.) captured top MASCAC honors in both the triple jump (34'3.5"/10.45m) and the 60-meter dash (8.29).

Senior Danielle Poto (North Andover, Mass.) placed first in both the MASCAC and Alliance results in the 3,000-meter run with a career-best time of 10:25.39.

Junior Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) also captured both the MASCAC and Alliance titles in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 3.75 inches (1.62m).

Seniors Theresa Connolly (North Andover, Mass.) and Rachel Ducharme (North Attleboro, Mass.) and junior Sabrina Rizzo (Peabody, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' MASCAC individual champions. Connolly in the 1,000-meter run (3:17.35), Ducharme in the 5,000-meter run (18:58.89) and Rizzo in the 600-meter run (1:45.70).

Next weekend, qualifying members of the BSU indoor track & field teams will compete at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Middlebury College.
