Jayci Andrews Named MASCAC Women's Outdoor Track Athlete & Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Jayci Andrews has been selected as both the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Outdoor Track Athlete & Rookie of the Week.

A native of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Andrews earned All-ECAC honors and set program records in three events at the ECAC Division III Championships held last week at Westfield State University.

Andrews placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.76 seconds as she broke her own mark of 57.68 seconds set earlier this season. She also finished third in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.58 seconds to break the school record of 14.75 seconds set last season by teammate Ariele Krevosky (Oxford, Mass.).

Andrews also ran a leg on the Bears' record-setting 4x100-meter relay along with classmate Madeline McNamara (Hull, Mass.) and juniors Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) and Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.). The foursome placed fifth at the meet with a time of 47.95 seconds as they eclipsed the school mark of 49.58 seconds set earlier this season.

With her record-setting time in the 400, Andrews qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships which will take place later this week. She currently ranks 16th in all of Division III in the event.

Andrews has earned MASCAC Rookie of the Week accolades an impressive 16 times between the indoor (eight) and outdoor (eight) seasons. The MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week distinction marks her eighth overall (four outdoor).

Back in March, Andrews qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships and placed 11th in the 400-meter dash.

All told, Andrews has either set or been a part of six record-setting performances during her freshman year at Bridgewater State. Two during the indoor season (400, 4x400) and four during the outdoor campaign (100H, 400, 4x100, 4x400).

The NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships will take place from Thursday, May 26th to Friday, May 28th at Walston-Hoover Stadium on the campus of Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. The preliminaries of the 400-meter dash is slated for 5:00 PM (CDT) on Friday with the finals on Saturday afternoon at 2:20 PM.
