Women's Outdoor Track & Field Captures ECSU Invitational Title

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team captured the meet title at the 9th Annual ECSU Invitational on Friday.

The Bears posted a score of 281 points to outdistance host Eastern Connecticut State University (103 pts.).

Ten different Bears won individual events led by sophomore Kristin Leone (Weymouth, Mass.) and junior Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) who captured two each.

Leone placed first in 100-meter hurdles (15.68) and the long jump (17'2"/5.23m) with season-best marks in both. Leone also qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships in each of the two events.

Maymon captured top honors with season-best marks in the shot put (34'/10.36m) and the javelin (104'5"/31.83m).

Juniors Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) and Abbie Pustis (Andover, Mass.) and freshman Kassidy Campbell (Norton, Mass.) also won events while each qualifying for the Division III New England Championships. Perry finished first in the 200-meter dash (26.34), while Pustis won the 400-meter dash (1:00.11) and Campbell posted the top time in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.80).

Also finishing first for the Bears were junior Kristyn Grattan (Hanover, Mass.) in the 800-meter run (2:24.85), senior Rachel Ducharme (North Attleboro, Mass.) in the 5,000-meter run (19:45.73), junior Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.) in the high jump (5'2.25"/1.58m), sophomore Michelle Stefanowicz (South Hadley, Mass.) in the discus throw (109'7"/33.40m) and senior Sheila O'Sullivan (Westwood, Mass.) in the hammer throw (143'2"/43.63m).

Grattan, Stefanowicz and O'Sullivan all recorded season-best marks.

Next weekend, the BSU outdoor track & field teams will compete at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships hosted by UMass Dartmouth.
