Women's Track & Field Competes at AIC Yellow Jacket Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team competed at the 6th Annual Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by AIC on Saturday.

The Bears' 4x400-meter relay featuring juniors Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.) and Abbie Pustis (Andover, Mass.) and freshmen Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) and Anyelina Martinez (Lawrence, Mass.) captured top honors in the event with a time of 4:02.91. The foursome qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships and currently ranks 24th in all of Division III in the event.

Andrews and juniors Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.), Alexa Hambly (Middleboro, Mass.) and Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) placed second and qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 50.07 seconds. They were less than 3/10 of a second off the BSU school outdoor mark of 49.82 seconds.

Andrews also finished third in both the 400-meter dash and the long jump with season-best marks. She posted a time of 58.59 seconds to qualify for the ECAC Championships in the 400, and recorded a leap of 16 feet, 11.5 inches (5.17m) to qualify for the Division III New England Championships in the long jump.

Senior Danielle Poto (North Andover, Mass.) placed second in the 5,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 17:45.02. Poto qualified for all three regional postseason meets in the event and currently ranks 29th in all of Division III.

Senior Ariele Krevosky (Oxford, Mass.), Richner and sophomore Kristin Leone (Weymouth, Mass.) placed fourth (15.61), fifth (15.75) and seventh (16.06), respectively, in the 100-meter hurdles. Krevosky and Richner qualified for the ECAC Championships in the event, while Leone qualified for DIII New Englands.

Pustis and sophomore Haley Monaghan (Somerset, Mass.) also qualified for DIII New Englands in their respective events. Pustis posted a time of 1:00.34 to place eighth in the 400-meter dash, while Monaghan finished ninth overall at the meet in the javelin with a toss of 113 feet, eight seconds (34.64m).

Senior Sheila O'Sullivan (Westwood, Mass.) placed fourth in the hammer throw with a career-best mark of 140 feet, five inches (42.81m). Lane equaled her career-high in the high jump with a leap of five feet, one inch (1.55m).

Bridgewater State finished in third place in the team standings with 70 points. Stonehill captured the meet title with 100.60 points followed by New Haven in second place with 84.50 points.

Next Saturday, the Bears will compete at the Jerry Gravel Classic hosted by Westfield State University.
