Women's Outdoor Track & Field Hosts Season-Opening BSU Bears Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team hosted the season-opening BSU Bears Invitational on Saturday at chilly Swenson Field.

The non-scoring meet featured 22 women's teams from the New England area.

Freshman Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) highlighted the Bears' six event winners as she placed first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.29 seconds. Andrews also finished second in the 100-meter dash (12.77) and the 200-meter dash (25.85). She qualified for the Division III New England Championships in all three events and qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships in both the hurdles and the 200.

Andrews also ran a leg on the Bears' first-place 4x100-meter relay (50.56) along with juniors Alexa Hambly (Middleboro, Mass.), Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) and Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.).  

Senior Danielle Poto (North Andover, Mass.) placed second in the 10,000-meter run and qualified for all three regional postseason meets with a personal-best time of 36:54.88.

Seniors Sheila O'Sullivan (Westwood, Mass.) and Ariele Krevosky (Oxford, Mass.) and junior Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.) also qualified for DIII New Englands in their respective events. O'Sullivan finished second in the hammer throw (139'10"/42.63m), while Krevosky placed third in the 100-meter hurdles (16.10) and Lane finished fourth in the high jump (5'0.25"/1.53m).

The Bears' junior quarter of Lane, Richner, Abbie Pustis (Andover, Mass.) and Sabrina Rizzo (Peabody, Mass.) won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:16.28. Pustis also placed first in the 400-meter dash (1:01.69).

Sophomore Melina Baker (Attleboro, Mass.) and freshman Molly McNamara (Hull, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' event winners. Baker was the first to cross the finish line in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (13:39.80), while McNamara captured top honors in the triple jump (33'10.75"/10.33m).

Freshman Kassidy Campbell (Norton, Mass.) added a second place showing in the 400-meter hurdles (1:11.84).

Next Saturday, the Bears will compete at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.
