BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Samantha Richner has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week.

Richner captured top honors in the high jump at the Tufts Snowflake Classic with a leap of five feet, three inches (1.60 meters).  The Hanson, Massachusetts native qualified for both the Division III New England Championships and ECAC Division III Championships, and is ranked 12th in all of Division III in the event.

Richner earned MASCAC Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Week honors six times during  winter season.  She set the Bears’ indoor high jump record with a mark of five feet, five inches (1.65 meters) early this year at the BU John Thomas Terrier Invitational.

The outdoor track and field season continues for Richner and her teammates on Saturday as the Bears compete at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.
