Samantha Richner Named MASCAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. --For an impressive sixth time this season, Bridgewater State University freshman Samantha Richner has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week.

A native of Hanson, Massachusetts, Richner tied for ninth in the high jump with a leap of five feet, one inch (1.55 meters) at the 2014 Division III New England Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships held this past weekend at Springfield College.

Three different Bears have accounted for eight MASCAC Indoor Rookie of the Week honors this season with Richner leading the way with six.  She is joined by teammates Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.)

Earlier this season at the BU John Thomas Terrier Invitational, Richner set the Bears' indoor record in the high jump with a distance of five feet, five inches (1.65 meters).  She currently ranks 24th in all of Division III in the event.

Richner also helped the BSU women's track and field team capture the program's first ever MASCAC indoor championship on February 15th as she captured the individual title in the high jump with a distance of five feet, three inches (1.60 meters).

Richner has qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships in the high jump.  The ECACs will take place at the Reggie Lewis Center on March 7th and 8th.
